Opening Hours: The great staircase, the foyers, the auditorium, the museum and the temporary exhibition hall are open daily from 10am-5pm (last admission at 4:30pm). Building work lasted fifteen years from 1860 to 1875, interrupted by the Franco-Prussian war, the fall of the Empire and the 1871 Commune. The architect was the unknown 35-year-old Charles Garnier, who gave the opera house its name, Palais Garnier.
It was built under Napoleon III as part of the Parisian reconstruction project carried out by Baron Haussmann during the Second Empire. The Palais Garnier is one of the most beautiful monuments in Paris.
